I’m Convinced We’re All Sleeping On An Upcoming MCU Release That Could Change The Game For The Franchise

One upcoming MCU project represents all the huge changes Marvel Studios" franchise has gone through in over seventeen years. The Multiverse Saga heads to an epic climax with 2026"s Avengers: Doomsday and 2027"s Avengers: Secret Wars, which may lead to a fresh new era for the MCU. But before Avengers: Secret Wars takes Avengers: Endgame"s crossover appeal to another level, a variety of movies and shows will continue to explore new and old corners of the Marvel multiverse.
In comparison to previous years, the MCU"s 2025 slate ups the ante with nine projects; three movies and six shows. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man marks the first time Spider-Man stars in an animated MCU show, Daredevil: Born Again fully brings Matt Murdock"s Netflix lore to the MCU, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* revisit several MCU heroes" story, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Ironheart, Eyes of Wakanda, and Wonder Man introduce several new characters. All these projects" exciting possibilities may be overshadowing a Phase 6 title with lots of potential.
The MCU Has Experienced Some Major Changes Over The Past Years Several MCU Titles Would Have Been Unthinkable Just A Few Years Before Their Release Close The idea of an interconnected cinematic universe was a bold one back in 2008, yet Marvel"s Phase 1 created the blueprint for all successful and unsuccessful cinematic universes of recent years. Years later, Marvel Studios and Sony made an unprecedented deal to integrate Spider-Man into the MCU, and only three years later, Avengers: Endgame brought together more than thirty-eight Marvel characters on the big screen. Fast-forward another few years, and the Fantastic Four, many of Fox"s X-Men, Charlie Cox"s Daredevil, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield"s Spider-Men, and multiple other Marvel character portrayals are now an official part of the MCU.
Related I'm Convinced The Fantastic Four: First Steps Will Prove How Badly Marvel Wasted The Multiverse (But I Trust MCU Phase 6 Will Fix It) The Fantastic Four: First Steps could reveal the Multiverse Saga"s weaknesses as it introduces a brand-new, fully fleshed-out alternate MCU timeline.
Posts Besides specific characters, Marvel Studios has also exceeded expectations with the release of critically acclaimed streaming shows like WandaVision and Loki, as well as innovative Special Presentations like The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and Werewolf by Night. By 2025, a key part of the franchise"s overarching story is taking place on the small screen, in Daredevil: Born Again seasons 1 and 2. Meanwhile, What If...?"s three seasons, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and Eyes of Wakanda offer a different angle on the Marvel multiverse due to their animated format.
Marvel Zombies Is A Perfect Way To Show Just How Far The MCU Has Come In Many Ways Marvel Zombies Epitomizes The MCU's Wild Evolution In 2025, Marvel Zombies will dive deeper into the zombie-infested world introduced in What If...? season 1 episode 5. The MCU"s animated Marvel Zombies adaptation derives inspiration from the eponymous limited series of comic books, where an entire timeline is wiped out by a virus. Unlike the source material, however, Marvel Studios" Marvel Zombies isn"t expected to cross over with the MCU"s main universe. It will also assemble an unlikely group of characters that include alternate variants of Scarlet Witch, Shang-Chi, Yelena Belova, and Blade.
A series that slices through variants of heroes like Iron Man and Captain America can fly under the radar in the modern-day MCU
Marvel Zombies is a TV-MA animated standalone spinoff of a multiversal anthology animated series that adapts a horror comic book miniseries — a far cry from the straightforward action movies that built the foundations for the MCU in Phase 1. Comic book storylines like Civil War, The Infinity Gauntlet, Spider-Man: One More Day, and Secret Wars would have seemed impossible to adapt only a few years before their respective adaptations" announcement. Now, a series that slices through variants of heroes like Iron Man and Captain America can fly under the radar in the modern-day MCU.
Why Marvel Zombies Is A Perfect Release For The Current MCU Marvel Zombies Makes The Most Out Of Its Multiversal Nature Close Naturally, the main appeal of the Multiverse Saga"s titular concept is the possibility of discovering a wide variety of alternate universes. However, multiversal travel isn"t the only way to explore this idea. Marvel Zombies takes place exclusively in the timeline where most heroes have been infected by a zombie virus. The animated series likely won"t tie into the Multiverse Saga"s overarching storyline or require viewers to be up-to-date with the increasingly complex web of multiversal concepts introduced over the past few years.

Posts A Marvel Zombies adaptation could only work thanks to the multiverse, as its primary draw is the sight of famous Marvel characters die brutal deaths. And given that a live-action Marvel Zombies adaptation would match the scope of an Avengers movie, the best way to bring the storyline to life in motion is by translating it to animation. In other words, the MCU"s Marvel Zombies might be the best possible adaptation of the 2006 comics, as well as a fresh entry in the Multiverse Saga and an enticing offering for any viewer looking for something new from Marvel.
